Angle valves and connection valves: which valve for which connection?
A valve between the wall connection and the tap or appliance lets you shut off the water at that exact point. The right design depends on how many outlets share the connection and whether you want to shut off the water or also drain the pipe. The table groups the valves in our range.
| Design | Use | Connection |
|---|---|---|
| 1/2 inch angle valve | Washbasin, toilet cistern, kitchen tap | 1/2 inch, 3/8 inch (10 mm) compression fitting with brass cone, length adjustment, sliding escutcheon |
| 1/2 inch combination angle valve | Tap plus washing machine or dishwasher on the same connection | Self-sealing 1/2 inch, 3/8 inch (10 mm) compression fitting, second outlet with 3/4 inch male thread |
| DN 15 angled-seat appliance valve | Washing machine or dishwasher with its own connection | 1/2 inch male thread, 1/2 inch sheet-metal hose union, short wall clearance |
| Drainable free-flow valve | Shutting off and draining a pipe section | Female thread, 1/2 to 1 1/4 inch |
| KFR valve with test screw | Shutting off a pipe, with non-return valve and drain | Female thread, 3/4 to 1 1/4 inch |
Angle valve with appliance connection for dishwashers and washing machines
Under a kitchen sink, the tap and dishwasher often share a wall connection. The combination angle valve is designed for this: the tap connects to the 3/8 inch (10 mm) compression fitting, and the appliance inlet hose to the second outlet with a 3/4 inch male thread. An integral non-return valve prevents water from the appliance flowing back into the drinking water pipe. The same arrangement works in a bathroom where the washing machine stands beside the washbasin.
If the appliance has its own connection, for example in a basement or utility room, choose the DN 15 angled-seat appliance valve. It fits close to the wall, also has a non-return valve and comes with a 1/2 inch sheet-metal hose union. Both valves are made of pressed brass, polished and chrome-plated.
1/2 inch angle valve for washbasins and cisterns: what should you check first?
If the connection supplies just one outlet, a standard 1/2 inch angle valve is sufficient. It is rated noise class 1 for quiet operation, and its length adjustment helps when the wall connection is slightly recessed. Find it under Connection valves. Before sending an enquiry, check beneath the basin:
- What thread does the wall connection have? It is usually 1/2 inch.
- How is the tap connected: with a rigid 10 mm pipe for the compression fitting or a 3/8 inch flexible hose?
- How much room is there between the wall and the trap? This determines whether a combination angle valve with its second outlet will fit.
Find 3/8 inch flexible hoses in lengths of 300 and 500 mm under Outlet taps and flexible hoses.
Shut-off valve for a pipe: free-flow valve or KFR valve?
Both shut off drinking water pipes and are DIN-DVGW certified. Both have a brass body, EPDM seals, a polyamide handle, female threads and a drain for emptying a pipe section before maintenance. The difference lies in the spindle and internal construction:
- The free-flow valve has a rising spindle. Its position shows whether the valve is open or closed.
- The KFR valve combines a free-flow valve and a non-return valve in one body, with an additional test screw. Its spindle does not rise, so the handle stays at the same height when opened and needs less clearance in front.
For a quick shut-off, you can also use a ball valve with a lever or butterfly handle.
Replacing an angle valve: what should you check beforehand?
Our guide under Plumbing and installation describes each step. First, run through this short check:
- Does the main shut-off valve still close tightly? If not, consult a specialist contractor before replacing the valve.
- Is sealant ready? Find hemp and thread-sealing cord under Consumables. The combination angle valve does not need these because its connection thread is self-sealing.
- If the flexible hose to the tap is old or brittle, replace it at the same time.
Work on drinking water installations, especially shut-off valves in the main supply pipe, is best carried out by a specialist contractor.

Frequently asked questions about angle valves and connection fittings
Included items, nominal bore, sizes, KFR valves and collection: brief answers.
What comes with the combination angle valve?
A sliding cover plate and a plastic 3/4 × 1/2 inch hose connector for the appliance outlet. The valve is supplied in an individual box.
What does DN 15 mean for valves?
DN stands for nominal bore. For threaded connections, DN 15 corresponds to 1/2 inch, as on our DN 15 angled-seat appliance valve.
Which sizes are available for free-flow and KFR valves?
We offer the free-flow valve with drain in 1/2, 3/4, 1 and 1 1/4 inch. The KFR combined stop and non-return valve comes in 3/4, 1 and 1 1/4 inch. Both have female threads.
What is the test screw on the KFR valve for?
The test screw lets you check whether the non-return valve closes tightly. The KFR valve also has a drain for emptying the pipe section after shutting it off.
Is the free-flow valve also suitable for heating?
Yes. The free-flow valve with drain is DIN-DVGW-certified and suitable for drinking water, plumbing and heating systems in domestic, commercial and industrial settings. The KFR valve is intended for drinking water installations and rated for a maximum of 90 °C and 10 bar.
