Brass threaded fittings 3/8 to 1 1/2 inch: socket, nipple, elbow, tee
Threaded fittings made of brass CW 617N for connecting, reducing, branching and closing: sockets and hex nipples, reducing nipples, reducing sockets and reducers, elbows 90° and bends 45°, tees, caps, plugs, flat-sealing and union fittings as well as tap extensions, from 3/8″ to 1 1/2″. The inch figure is the nominal size of the thread; IG (Innengewinde) stands for female thread, AG (Außengewinde) for male thread. These are order items with collection from our Hagen warehouse once the goods have arrived.
Which connection details help with choosing fittings?
For each connection, state whether you need IG (female) or AG (male). For unions we also need the required type of seal and the counterpart; a photo or its item name helps with identification.

Detachable connections: the flat-sealing union AG × IG is used, for example, as a meter union on the water meter. The union fitting IG × IG connects two male threads so that filters, pumps or valves can be removed later.

Brass threaded fittings: Which component do you need?
Threaded fittings connect, extend, reduce, branch or close threaded connections. According to the manufacturer, ours are made from CW 617N brass to EN 12165, with threads to UNI EN ISO 228-1 (parallel pipe thread, designation G). Abbreviations in the names: IG means female thread and AG means male thread; IG × AG has one female and one male end, while IG × IG has two female ends. We write sizes with the inch symbol, for example 1/2″ or 1 1/4″.
| Component | Thread | Sizes we offer | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Socket | female / female | 3/8″ to 1 1/4″ | Connect two male threads |
| Hexagon nipple | male / male | 3/8″ to 1 1/4″; long version in 1/2″ to 1″ with lengths of 40 to 100 mm | Connect two female threads, bridge a gap |
| Reducing socket, reducing nipple, AG × IG reducer | Depending on component | 1/2″ × 3/8″ to 1 1/2″ × 1 1/4″ | Change to a different size |
| 90° elbow IG × AG and IG × IG, 45° bend IG × AG and IG × IG | female / male or female / female | Elbow 3/8″ to 1 1/4″, bend 1/2″ to 1 1/4″ | Change direction |
| Female tee (IG) | female | 1/2″ to 1 1/4″, reduced for example 3/4″ × 1/2″ × 3/4″ | Create a branch |
| Cap, plug | Cap female, plug male | 3/8″ to 1 1/4″ | Close male or female threads |
| Flat-sealing pipe union AG × IG, ground-joint union IG × IG | With union nut | Flat-sealing 1/2″ × 3/4″ to 1 1/4″ × 1 1/2″, ground-joint union 1/2″ to 1 1/4″ | Removable connection, for example at a pump or meter |
| Meter union set | Union | 1/2″ × 3/4″ and 3/4″ × 1″ | Connect water and heat meters |
| Tap extension | female / male | 1/2″, 10 to 100 mm long | Extend a wall connection forwards |
Inch sizes: How do you find the right size?
The inch marking (″) is a nominal size, not a measured dimension. A 1/2″ thread measures about 21 mm externally, considerably more than half an inch (12.7 mm), so checking it with a ruler often leads to the wrong size. Use the marking on the valve, meter or manifold, or compare with a part known to fit. Reducers list the larger end first: a 3/4″ × 1/2″ reducing socket changes from 3/4″ to 1/2″. If in doubt, bring the old part to our shop for advice.
Operating limits: Temperature, pressure and fluids
The manufacturer specifies two limits: with a seal, up to +100 °C and 10 bar; without a seal, up to +120 °C and 16 bar. Whenever a seal is involved, for example in flat-sealing unions, the lower limit applies. The lower temperature limit is –20 °C, but only with antifreeze and no more than 30 % glycol. The manufacturer's application table lists drinking water, hot water, cooling, radiators, irrigation and compressed air.
Sealing threads: Hemp, sealing cord or PTFE tape?
The right sealant depends on the thread. Hemp with jointing compound is the traditional method for metal threads, and the connection can be undone later. Thread sealing cord is quicker to apply and, depending on the product, also approved for plastic threads. PTFE tape is intended for fine threads. The individual materials are explained under Consumables.
Installation: Making a threaded joint watertight
- Inspect and clean the thread. Damaged threads do not seal reliably.
- Lay a thin layer of hemp into the threads in the tightening direction and coat evenly with compound, or wind sealing cord according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Start the fitting by hand and tighten with a pipe wrench or spanner without overtightening. Too much hemp can split a socket.
- Flat-sealing unions seal through their gasket, ground-joint unions through their sealing seat; neither type requires hemp on the union nut thread.
- Pressure-test the pipe before covering it.
For aluminium composite pipe, a male (AG) or female (IG) threaded press adapter sits between the pipe and threaded fitting; the pipe is calibrated, deburred and pressed. See Press fittings. For isolation, use Ball valves from 3/8″ to 1 1/4″; meters are listed under Water meters & mounting blocks.

Collection is by appointment Monday–Friday 8:30–17:30 and Saturday 10–14. Driving takes around 10 minutes from Gevelsberg, 14 from Wetter (Ruhr) and 27 from Iserlohn.
Socket or male-to-male nipple: which do I need?
A socket has two female threads and joins two male threads. A male-to-male nipple has two male threads and joins two female threads. We offer both from 3/8″ to 1 1/4″, with the nipple also available in long versions from 40 to 100 mm.
Cap or plug: which closes which thread?
Use a cap for a male thread and a plug for a female thread. The cap itself has a female thread and the plug a male thread; both are available from 3/8″ to 1 1/4″.
What is the benefit of a union fitting?
It provides a detachable connection without having to turn pipes or fittings, for example at a pump or meter. The female × female union is available from 1/2″ to 1 1/4″; the flat-sealing male × female union seals with a flat gasket. A separate union set is available for water and heat meters.
What lengths are the tap extensions?
The 1/2″ tap extension comes in 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80 and 100 mm lengths. It brings a wall connection forward past the finished tile surface.
What operating limits apply to brass threaded fittings?
Where a seal is involved, the maximum limits are +100 °C and 10 bar; otherwise +120 °C and 16 bar. Use down to –20 °C requires antifreeze, with no more than 30 % glycol.
Can I connect brass threaded fittings to multilayer composite pipe?
Yes, using a press adaptor with a male or female thread from 1/2″ to 1 1/4″. The pipe side is pressed; the thread on the other side is sealed with hemp and paste or thread sealing cord.
How should I specify threaded fittings in my enquiry?
Give the fitting shape, thread size (for example 3/4″) and quantity; for reducers, include both sizes. These fittings are order items for collection from our Hagen warehouse after they arrive. We give you the date in our reply. Shipping is available on request.
