Water meters and mounting blocks: Surface-mounted or concealed?

Apartment water meters are either exposed on the pipe or concealed inside the wall. A surface installation uses an apartment meter; a concealed installation uses a metering capsule in a mounting block. The main water meter at the building's supply connection is usually mounted in a connection assembly. Apartment meter or metering capsule: Which water meter fits?

It depends on what is already installed. If the old meter is visible on the pipe, it is replaced with an apartment meter of the same installation length. Our single-jet apartment meter is DN 15, has an installation length of L = 80 mm and a brass body; it is intended for apartment buildings, residential developments and commercial properties.

If only a cover is visible in the wall, there is usually a mounting block with a metering capsule behind it. Only the capsule is then replaced, and the block determines which one fits. Please state the manufacturer and type in your enquiry.

In the cold water version (KW), the apartment meter and metering capsule measure up to 30 °C and are rated up to 16 bar (PN 16). Both are also available as hot water versions (WW); we provide their specifications in our reply to your enquiry.

Water meter mounting block: What is needed for concealed installation?

The Mono M 77 × 1.5 mounting block comes pre-assembled and factory leak-tested. It accepts EAS Modul Type A 34 metering capsules, suits cold and hot water, has sound and thermal insulation, and includes a 3/4-inch concealed shut-off valve to isolate the pipe when changing the capsule.

The chrome-plated trim set provides the visible finish, with a 40 mm sleeve and a handle with red and blue markers. We check compatibility with your block when you enquire. If a UPM-EASN coaxial metering cartridge sits too deep in the wall, the metering cartridge extension compensates for 40 mm.

Main water meters: Connection assembly with valves

The connection assembly supports the main water meter and includes shut-off valves upstream and downstream. It accepts horizontally installed multi-jet meters and is available in 3/4, 1 and 1 1/4 inch. The valves are DVGW-approved full-flow angle-seat valves in forged brass with non-rising spindles; the outlet side also has a non-return valve, drain and headworks without dead spaces. The stainless steel bracket adjusts in length and has an earthing screw. Find more shut-off valves under Angle valves and connection fittings.

Installing water meters: Water supplier and installer

The water supplier usually installs and replaces the main meter, so agree any work on the connection assembly with them beforehand. Apartment meters, mounting blocks and metering capsules are best fitted by an installer who then checks for leaks. During replacement, an arrow on the meter indicates the flow direction, and old seals are replaced. A two-piece escutcheon with inner tube provides a neat finish for pipe penetrations through walls or ceilings.
